WC 2022 SECOND QUALIFIERS: FAT changes Thai League fixtures for Thailand national team’s preparation
FAT moved one Thai League round backward for Thailand new head coach Akira Nishino to prepare for the national team’s first battle in World Cup 2022, with Vietnam rival on September 5.
Thailand is seeking for the ticket to the third qualification, with the first battle against Vietnam.
‘War Elephants’ was drawn into group G with other ASEAN teams including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and UAE (Pot 1).
FAT deputy secretary-general stated that the decision was made based on Nishino request.
“All Thai League 1 and 2 matches on August 21 will be moved to October 2,” Patit announced.
“However, matches on August 25, 26 will be as usual. Thai clubs were asked to release its players to train after those matches.
Coach Nishino worried that some clubs like True Bangkok United, Buriram United and Chiang Rai United plays up to 8 matches in August, which could affect players’ strength.
The coach will scout some matches and pick out a 30-man list at the beginning of August. The final list will be announced later”.
Patit also affirmed that FAT has not appointed any Thai coaches to support Mr. Nishino.
“Selected coaches need sign a contract with FAT. There are many criteria to consider before putting them in the coaching team”.
Japan former head coach Nishino has not revealed any term of the contract and claimed not to bring any coaching team to Thailand since he trust the quality of Thai coaches.
