Vietnam’s women football team welcome the key pillar prior to play-off match
The Vietnamese women's team pillar defender Chuong Thi Kieu is now ready to return to practice with the teammates.
Previously, this 25-year-old player was unable to participate in the squad of the Vietnamese women's team to Jeju, in the group stage of the third qualifying round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic women's football.
Chuong Thi Kieu actively requested permission from coach Mai Duc Chung to stay in order to completely treat her knee ligament injury.
Without the captain, Tuyet Dung and his teammates still played well when they won the second position in Group A and got the play-off ticket.
Even more, the Viertnam women team welcomes the return of Chuong Thi Kieu when she has recovered from injury.
“Currently, Chuong Thi Kieu's injury is fine and will be present in the focus to prepare for the play off round, this is good news for the Vietnamese women's team.
In addition, I am thinking to call for a few more young faces for the next round for the midfield and defense,” coach Mai Duc Chung shared with the press.
The opponent of Vietnam Women's team in the play-off is the first team in Group B, which will be determined after Australia and China clash in the final round.
“The Australian team really wants to meet the Vietnamese women's team to take advantage for finding tickets to the Tokyo Olympics.
Not to mention they are also the host and overwhelm the Chinese opponent in the last match of Group B, so the possibility for them to take top spot and face Vietnam is very high,” said coach Mai Duc Chung.
According to the schedule, the play-off match for the first leg of Vietnam Women team will take place on March 6 and the return leg will play on March 11.
Coach Mai Duc Chung is also advising with the Vietnam Football Federation on the possibility of selecting Hang Day yard so that his players can play the second leg.
The two teams that win the play-off round will be the representatives of Asia to attend the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with the host, and also the defending champion of Japan.
