Thai media rejoice following the news AFF Cup is postponed
The AFF Cup will be postponed to 2021, which helps Thai League take place completely. Thereby, Thai teams will have no difficulty in summoning players for the national team.
Southeast Asian football federations have an emergency meeting to find the most reasonable plan to organize the AFF Cup. Accordingly, the tournament will be moved to April 2021 instead of being held later this year.
The Thai team will definitely benefit from the new schedule. Due to the impact of the disease, Thai League is expected to take place from October this year to May next year. That makes it difficult for clubs to release people to serve the national team to participate in the tournament that is not in the FIFA system.
The Siam Sport newspaper wrote: "The online conference of the Southeastern Football Federation decided to postpone the AFF Cup 2020 until 2021".
“After the meeting on July 30, General Secretary of the Thai Football Federation (FAT) Phadit Suphaphong told the Thai media: The nember federatioins, the organizer of the tournament and the sponsors came to the decision to move the AFF Cup to next year. This will help Thai Thai League schedule not coincide with the AFF Cup schedule.
Not only the AFF Cup, even the 2022 World Cup qualifier is at risk of further delay. On the afternoon of July 29, FIFA and its federations as well as senior leaders of the continents held an online meeting. One of the main issues discussed at this meeting is the plan to hold matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
FIFA will monitor the situation with AFC closely before making a decision. According to the current schedule, the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia will take place in October and November. The Vietnamese team will play 1 match in October and 2 matches in November.
