Director of Heerenveen: 'Doan Van Hau is a very special case'

Recently, many Vietnamese fans have called Doan Van Hau to return to the country to compete as he hasn’t been used by coach Johnny Jansen. However, SC Technical Director Heerenveen Gerry Hamstra said that Van Hau is a special case, it takes a lot of time before being given the opportunity.

Mr. Gerry Hamstra said: "Doan Van Hau is a very special case. We told him from the beginning that he needs time. If I come to Vietnam, a completely foreign country, I also need time to adapt.

Only in 6 months Doan Van Hau did not fully serve the team. We know that. The other half of year is not as good as we expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. We will sit down with Doan Van Hau to discuss the future.”

Reportedly, Mr. Gerry Hamstra and head coach Johnny Jansen had a private meeting with Van Hau on April 23. At the meeting, the 21-year-old defender expressed his desire to continue to play football in the Netherlands.

The contents of the meeting were not disclosed but the Board of Directors of Heerenveen intends to continue extending the contract for another year with Van Hau. Even, coach Johnny also appreciates the talent and effort in training of Vietnamese player.

Doan Van Hau did not feel too worried about the future. "Although I haven't played much, I have grown a lot more when I was at Heerenveen. Thanks for the time here, I was able to explode like I have scored double in the 2019 SEA Games final against Indonesia," Van Hau asserted.
