Being accused of corruption, FAT president re-elected the second time
Mr. Somyot Pumpanmuang continues to take over of Thai Football Federation with overwhelming votes after the meeting on February 12.
Mr. Somyot Pumpanmuang, 65, has been in charge of the Football Federation of Thailand since February 2016. In the meeting on February 12, he won a convincing victory in the election with 51/69 votes, of which 1 was removed due to invalid.
Somyot will serve as FAT chairman for the second term till 2024. The election meeting also identifies five people as vice chairmen and 13 members of the FAT leadership team.
Earlier, the FAT’s presidential election was considered violating the FIFA rules as potential candidate - Worawi Makudi sent a request to the Sports Agency of Thailand (SAT) to remove the current president Somyos Pumpanmuang from the nomination list.
FIFA has issued a warning to FAT and may impose a ban on international competition if it violates regulations.
Under the direction of President Somyot Pumpanmuang, FAT was disagreed by the fans as they left Kiatisak. Mr Somyot also faces allegations of corruption. According to SMM Sport, some clubs in the Thai League and the banks have sued this president.
