AFC announces Club rankings, Hanoi FC ranked 6th in ASEAN
The latest rankings of AFC shows that Vietnam side Hanoi FC is placed 6th in the region.
Hanoi FC has a total score of 27.08, ranked 6th in Southeast Asia, following Ceres Negros (Philippines), Buriram United, Muangthong United (Thailand), Johor Darul Ta’zim (Malaysia) and Home United (Singapore).
In the overall rankings of the Asian region, Hanoi FC ranked 52nd among all 169 teams. This position helps Quang Hai and his teammates to rank higher than many big teams in the region such as Daegu FC (South Korea), FC Tokyo, Yokohama F. Marinos, Vissel Kobe (Japan) or Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane Roar (Australia). ).
This achievement also helps Hanoi FC to become the highest ranked Vietnamese team in the region. A few other representatives also participated in this ranking as Becamex Binh Duong (87), Thanh Hoa Club (94) and SLNA (103).
2019 marks the strong progression of Hanoi FC on the Asia club rankings. This comes from the its advancement to the AFC Cup 2019 inter-region final.
The AFC club rankings are calculated based on the performance of the teams in the Asian Cup (AFC Champions League and AFC Cup). The deeper round a team gets into, the more points it gets.
The total points of clubs in the same country will affect their participation in the next season. For example, in the 2019 season, if Hanoi FC have beaten April 25, the total points of Vietnamese clubs would have been enough to join the AFC Champions League.
Unfortunately, Vietnamese teams still have to attend the AFC Champions League qualifying round while Malaysia and Thailand have direct slots in the group stage. In 2020, two representatives of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City Club and Than Quang Ninh) only participated in the AFC Cup group stage.
